DERMAPEN SKIN NEEDLING
What is Skin Needling?
Skin Needling, sometimes known as ‘Collagen Induction Therapy’ is a non surgical skin rejuvenation treatment that helps to restore collagen and elastin and improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
Our Skin Needling device is one of the safest, most effective and comfortable micro needling devices currently on the market and the adjustable hand-piece allows for a completely customised treatment tailored to your individual skin concern.
As we age our natural collagen production slows down, leading to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. During a treatment of Skin Needling, ultra-fine, medical grade needles create thousands of tiny punctures to the skin, stimulating a natural wound healing response that results in the formation of new collagen and elastin. New collagen production can continue for up to 12 months, resulting in an improvement in skin firmness and texture and a softening and lifting of scars and stretch marks. Skin Needling can also be used to diminish the appearance of pigmentation and sun damage, as well as improve uneven skin texture and stretched pores.
What does the treatment involve?
The skin is cleansed and topical anaesthetic is applied and left on the skin for 40minutes. A sterile Skin Needling device is then used to vertically penetrate the skin with micro needles that are 0.25mm to 2.5mm in length. The pens needle speed and depth is adjusted depending on the skin concerns being treated. The needling takes approximately 20mins per area and feels like a painless vibration on the skin. During treatment a topical Hyaluronic acid with Vitamin B is applied to boost your results and aid in the wound healing process. Immediately after the treatment, you will notice a bright redness to the skin. On average, patients are red for 1-2 days. Minor skin shedding may occur 2-3 days post treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Clients will see an improvement in their skin after each treatment however please use the following as a guide:
Rejuvenation 3-6 treatments (4-6 weeks apart)
Acne scarring 6-12 treatments (4-6 weeks apart)
Stretch marks 6-12 treatments (4-6 weeks apart)
How long will the results last?
Like all rejuvenation treatments you do need to maintain some amount of upkeep. Your new collagen will continue to improve over 6-12 months and results can last up to 5 years. It is recommended that you do a top up treatment 1-2 times a year to maintain your results and further stimulate collagen development.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) From $399
Platelet Rich Plasma is the concentrated part of blood that contains platelets. When injected into tissue, growth factors are released aiding in cell repair and generation of new tissues. As we age, collagen production in the body starts to slow and our skin starts to lose its elasticity and fullness which leads to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. PRP Therapy stimulates skin cells resulting in increased elasticity, plumpness and tightening of the skin.
Who can have this treatment?
Skin Needling can be safely performed on all skin types (fair to darker skins) and is even suitable for sensitive or thin skinned clients.
Skin needling is not suitable for those who have been on Roaccutane in the last 6 months, have cystic acne, open wounds, infections, psoriasis or dermatitis in the area to be treated, have uncontrolled diabetes, are pregnant or breast feeding (pregnant and nursing women may still have the needling treatment without the topical anaesthetic applied), or who are prone to keloid scarring or other abnormal wound healing. Smokers should be aware that smoking compromises the body’s ability to grow new collagen.
Olive and darker skin clients are required to prep their skin on our recommended tyrosinase inhibiting serum for 2 weeks prior to having a Skin Needling performed.
Post care information
A feeling of tightness is experienced and a "sunburnt" look is usually apparent immediately after treatment, a mild swelling may also occur subsiding over the next 24 hours. Slight redness may last 1-3 days but can be covered with mineral make up. We advise that you use only gentle products for the days following your procedure and apply sunscreen regularly. Hot baths, showers and saunas should be avoided for at least 3-5 days. To achieve optimal results with less down time we recommend that you apply Skinstitut Rejuvenate 15 Serum and Skinstitut Laser Aid every few hours for the first 24hrs, these are available to purchase at the time of your appointment.
